Andrew Peterson, who had been handling all accounting tasks alone for ten years, found himself stretched thin. E-gineering was founded in 2000 by four partners who wanted to build a stable, family-friendly consulting career without constant travel. Based in Indianapolis, the company began by specializing in Microsoft and Java development before expanding into mobile app development, project management, QA, DevOps, and most recently, AI-focused education and workshops. Over the years, E-gineering has grown steadily, evolving from a four-person team into an organization of 85 employees.
As the company grew, so did the complexity of its financial operations. For a decade, co-founder Andrew Peterson managed all of the company’s finances on his own. Although he had a strong analytical background and a personal interest in accounting, it became increasingly clear that the financial function needed more structure, oversight, and long-term scalability. “When our accountant left, I stepped in,” Andrew explains. “I’m not an accountant, really more of a glorified bookkeeper. I’m very process-driven and particular about how things are done, and for years that worked. But as we grew, it was clear we needed more professional oversight. I didn’t want to be the only set of eyes on our financials anymore.”
Through their banker, E-gineering was introduced to Milestone. From the outset, Andrew saw the value in partnering with a team that could bring additional professionalism, accountability, and guidance to the company’s financial operations. “The maturity they brought to our accounting really helped us,” Andrew says. “Everything became more consistent, our expenses were steadier month to month, our revenue matched the time we logged, and our reports finally told a complete story. It allowed our leadership to understand where we stood financially, especially with the forecasting tools they introduced early on.”
